Newton PTO
October 1, 2014 minutes
In attendance: Kia Burton-Mclaughlin, Jazmin Ramirez-Caraballo, Jami, Witherell, Erica Burns, Jen Perreault, and Jenni Vernon.
1. Welcome
a. Open Officer position- voted uncontested to vice president position Jenni Vernon. Voted to secretary position uncontested Jenni Vernon.
b. Budget update- $485 raised in Greenfield Garden Cinema box troll movie fundraiser. PTO money used to provide field trip to apple farm for kindergarten students and trip to UMass to see multiband. First grade has not had a PTO funded field trip.
2. On the table
a. Scholastic News follow-up-$683.83 scholastic dollars available. Kindergarten and second grades get scholastic news at $5 per student. No other grades are requesting scholastic news currently.
b. Fundraiser follow-up discussion
i. Greenfield Garden Cinema update- great time $485 raised great fundraiser $1,000 could be raised. This fundraiser needs to be booked far in advance as they only do one fundraiser a month.
ii. Re-discuss fundraising plan for fall- Uncle Jerry’s tees decided to do this year in November over Thanksgiving break. Butter braids will be done this year in February for Easter. 99 Restaurant was done last year in March and original works was done last year for mother’s day.
c. Book fair update- schedule was well staffed and planned through e-mail notices.
d. District Volunteer form- a district volunteer form was passed out in paper form, it is also available on our Greenfield public school website gpsk12.org. The advantage of being a registered volunteer is a free lunch at the end of the year as a way of thanking volunteers.
3. New to the table
a. Principal/staff report- Mel discussed her plan for a school parade, a fall festival, and musicians on Oct. 31.
b. Staff requests- No staff requests have been made although I am reminded that the first graders have not had a field trip or anything PTO sponsored.
c. Pumpkinfest table- the PTO chose to not enter into the pumkinfest sighting many common reasons.
d. Misc/other- Ladies this was our first PTO meeting of the 2014-2015 year. It was a pleasure to meet all of you. We are happy to have everybody on board of the Newton School PTO. We will enjoy this year together and everybody is welcome and appreciated; for the person they are and the gifts they possess they will bring to this organization
4. Meeting- Next meeting will be Nov. 4th at 5:30.
