PTO MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 10, 2012
Treasurer's Report: Total Funds: $2594.22 PTO Funds: $2402.58 Art Funds: $191.64
Dictionary Request:
There has been a request for new dictionaries for the school this year. Newton had $1167.39 in Scholastic dollars. We have voted and decided to purchase new dictionaries for the classrooms to share. *
Welcome Packets:
We have discussed handing our welcome packets for the students at Newton. We have discussed including pencils ($70.50) magnets ($82.00) and possibly a snack bag or hat. We will discuss this further at the next meeting.
Fundraisers: We have decided on doing the following fundraisers:
Butter braids/pies: packets have gone home with the students and are due back by 10/5 they will be submitted by 10/22 and will be delivered on 11/15. We will need help with distributing the pies and pastries on that day.
Original Works: funds will benefit the art program, this fundraiser usually happens Mar/Apr
Mo's Fudge/ Dutch Mill Bulbs: this fundraiser will be scheduled for Feb/Mar
we have other fundraisers that we will consider running if we need to increase PTO funds
Box tops: This is ongoing throughout the school year. We have collected a large amount already this year from the children saving over the summer. The next box top submission is Nov. 1. We will be sending home reminders to clip and save box tops to bring in before Oct. 22. It has been discussed to have a competition between classrooms or grades on who can collect the most box tops for each submission or set dates throughout the year. The classroom or grades would be rewarded with a healthy snack for the classroom, pizza, or item needed for the classroom. We will discuss this at the next meeting.
Education Express/ Stop and Shpt A+: we will send out a reminder or put in the news letter that Big Y and Stop and Shop have reward programs that shoppers can sign Newton School up for to earn money for our school.
Proposed Ideas:
Scholastic Book Fair: Will happen in March, we need to set a date for the fair and Bingo for Books.
Events:
Fall Festival: Set for Friday Oct.12 5:30-7 Erica has made flyers to send home. There has been a committee formed to help plan and coordinate this event. They will meet Sept 25 to discuss further planning, games and prizes, volunteers, and bakers.
Possible Events to discuss at the next meeting:
Math Night: December
Outdoor movie night: Late May
Dance: March or April
Bingo for Books/ Dr. Seuss Night: Week of Mar 4th??
Field Day: end of the year
Bringing performers for family night
PTO Meetings:
will be set for the first Tuesday of the month at 6pm in the library at Newton. We would like to purchase pizza for the people who attend the meetings. We are working on having childcare available for each meeting.
Field Trips:
Kindergarten is set to have a field trip to Apex Apple Orchards
A few teachers have put in requests for field trips, we will ask that the teachers planning a field trip submit a request so we can plan PTO funds for this years field trips.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 6pm we hope you can join us in the library at Newton!!
*(Side note information that wasn’t available for the meeting: There is an outstanding bill from last year with Scholastic that we were unaware of for Scholastic News. Scholastic Funds were used to pay for this in the past and after purchasing the dictionaries $237 remains in scholastic dollars which can be applied to the cost of the Scholastic News. This would however drain our scholastic dollars and we would still need to pay the remaining portion of approx $500. We also will need to purchase books for Bingo for Books in the spring which usually is paid for by scholastic dollars.)
